While I waited for my granddaughter to arrive and pick up the kids I gave the house a belated spring clean in preparation for Christmas week. All morning this little sacred kingfisher "serenaded" us with his loud, repetitive four note beep, beep, beep, beeping. Maybe his partner is nesting because from across the paddock a soft answering call came each time he called. He seemed to be keeping her informed of his whereabouts as he fed around the house. Lovely the first couple of times but jolly annoying after an hour. By that time even the kids were complaining.
A beautiful close up

Wonderful close-up! I've found kingfishers to be so skittish and elusive--they keep their distance.

Good for you - the clean - now you don't have to do it for another week? He's a cute wee bird - at first I thought it was a kookaburra!
