A sneaky fox comes at night
Does his round of the farmyard
And finds
A nesting turkey.
Patiently he waits.
On eve of hatching
He pounces.
Mother and matured chicks his dream.
She flees in fear
Barbed wire brings her down.
Up and off to the safety of the barn.
He feasts on loaded eggs alone
And she cries all day for what might have been.
