I seem to be revisiting old favorites this week. Those who have been following me for a while will remember these headless statues from previous posts. I wanted to get a distant shot of them merging from the fog, but those shots did not quite work out the way I wanted so I went with this one.
For those that have not seen this installation before it is called 'Agora'. The name Agora refers to the urban meeting places of the Ancient Greek city-states. In Chicago Agora is the name of a group of 106 headless and armless iron sculptures at the south end of Grant Park. Designed by Polish artist Magdalena Abakanowicz, they were made in a foundry near Poznan between 2004 and 2006. The Chicago Park District brought the work to Chicago as a permanent loan from the Polish Ministry of Culture in 2006. Similar installations have been constructed throughout the world, but Agora is among the largest.
Nice in black and white too.
