Those of you who follow me, even though I am a terrible at posting regularly and commenting back, know that my family adopted a dog last Saturday. He came to us with the name Frogger, but we changed it to Finn.
He has settled right in. He did develop a bit of a cough, the vet diagnosed it as kennel cough and considering where he came from it is no surprise. He is responding well to his medicine, he has not coughed at all today, but we are going to wait for a week to ten days before we introduce him to more dogs. Apart from that she gave him a clean bill of health and thought he was a great dog.
For the first few days he pulled like a train on his leash, but now he realizes he gets two walks a day he has calmed down totally. Though he cannot socialize with other dogs just yet, he whimpers and wags his tail when we sees other dogs when we are out for a walk.
Here in Chicago the city pound is full to capacity with dogs and cats! They work with a number of rescue organizations as well as the adoptions they do from the pound. When we adopted Finn, the volunteer who helped us out said the dogs are lucky to get out from their cages at least once a day. They do the best they can considering their finances and need for volunteer help.
If you are looking to get a dog or cat please consider a shelter. Even though Finn had kennel cough, the cost to get rid of it was no more than a couple of trips to Starbucks, he was neutered, micro-chipped, fully vaccinated and vetted before he left the shelter, and the love he gives us is second to none!
great name, great dog, and lucky finn to be in your family! this is such a fab shot of him - capturing that eagerness and enthusiasm you describe. wishing you all much happiness together :)
I am so pleased you have found the right dog for you and your family! He is gorgeous! Love this portrait of him - what an alert little face he has! Finn is one of the fortunate ones to have found his forever home! Fav!
He is so lucky to have adopted you! He's going to be beautifully photographed, become internationally famous, and be a model for adoption from shelters so may even end up saving other dog's lives. He makes me wish we had a dog again!
@pamknowler Thanks Pam. We spent a short while bouncing names off of each other. Finn was the one name we all agreed on, my immediate thought went to your Finaly, and felt there could only be one Finlay on 365. So Finn is Finn and occasionally Finncent!
