flying fish by vankrey

flying fish

After pondering @taffy 's fuschia photo yesterday, which she did in b&w to emphasize the form of the flower rather than all the color, I thought how strangely fish-like/scaly the back feathers of the hummingbird are when reflecting the afternoon sun. I thought the black and white brought that out nicely and then thought that the wings kind of look like fins, too. I'm spoiled. They are somewhere in my garden nearly every time I look out these days.

Fantastic photograph and very cleverly considered, does look very like a flying fish! What a beautiful sight for you in the morning. A fav.

@denidouble Thanks! I've always had them, but this one seems to have set up camp this summer! There are regularly two of them, I think an off spring. They were behaving like they were mating, but when I caught them on "film" together, neither had the male markings, Must be "training" her young.

You can really see the shimmer of those feathers in this b/w shot. Great capture!

Awesome -- it does look fish-like and we'd be unlikely to see that in color. Well chosen b&w, Michael, and a very effective image.
