COLLAGE- a sunny day at chowpati.

The prime minister came to inaugurate a huge statue of Shivaji Maharaj, a warrior king of India on an island offshore. The beach had orange flags and major security arrangements for people. People spent a day in the warm sun and peeked at the events.
Lovely collage of shots

@cruiser @seattlite Thank you. The saffron flags are the symbol of a political party. This large project of a statue is favoured by them. Many oppose it as it is very expensive and the money is needed in parts of our state to help the poor.

How fantastic to have the PM in your city. We got coverage here of the statue, looks most impressive. Great collage Veena.

@golftragic Thank you! Yes this expensive project is lauded as a great tourist attraction by some and also criticised as wasteful by others. Local fishermen say they will have to fish in deeper seas and so be affected. Others say it is unfriendly with the environment.

@veengupta That's interesting Veena. Geelong (my city) has a floating Christmas that's anchored on Corio Bay for a month or so each year. It cost a huge amount of money and strongly opposed by many locals as a waste of money that could've been better spent.

@golftragic This only proves that countries are as similar as they are different!

@veengupta Absolutely! Pity the politicians can't see that simple fact.
