Not a visual trick - the only thing that "holds" everyone in place is the little metal bar that you lift or lower at your convenience. On my way up and down I saw kids, babies and doggies of all sizes and shapes going up. I think it's pure self-preservation that prevented anyone from falling down.
Thanks for visiting!
P.S. one of those photos that lost sharpness on upload.
WOW Vera, what an amazing view and capture. I would not be able to hold onto my child, as I'm sure I would be trying too hard to hold on to the contents in my stomach. LOL
OMG this is so scary , really scary, bad enough doing it on your own, doing it with children and dogs is quite scary. I'd fave it but for the fact I'm scared !!
I rode one of those by myself when I went to Mittenwald on a weekday, and I was the only person on the entire way up. It was S-C-A-R-Y to think I could simply lift the bar and slide off! Well captured photo! I hope you were safely on land and using a super zoom lens. It would be scarier to ride DOWN one of those!
Now health and safety in the UK has gone OTT but this is crazy...... my children can't sit still on a sofa so there would be no way we'd be on there.... yikes! Wonderful view though.
Thank you so much for viewing and commenting on this! I am happy to report that all the times we went up and down, none of the children (of which we had collectively 4 in one of those lifts) fell off, lost anything or did anything remotely stupid. It is thrilling, especially going down on it - you are right here, @jyokota! And @mona65 - you are right. And although I had to think about how safe these things are for the kids (years of life in the US do their work!), it is so nice to see that normally, everyone whether big or small just takes these things up and down quite safely without any problems.
