For my Get Pushed challenge from @newbank: "My challenge to you is to do a shot that involves at least one or more of those three bread, eggs or tomatoe ketchup." I didn't have ketchup, so tomatoes will do, I guess. To me, it looks better on black.
Many "firsts" for me - first deliberate food shot (=made arranged for pictures, not for eating), first time buying tomatoes based on their visual characteristics and not their taste, and first time drooling behind the camera because I haven't had breakfast yet.
Any critique and input is highly appreciated!!!!!!
Beautiful photo Vera!!! I'm hungry too :) :) I love your composition and dof here, and the colors and details are vibrant. I hope you've made yourself a delicious breakfast after this!!
Thank you all so much for all of your generous comments on the bread/egg/tomato shot. I didn't expect it to be so well-received. I am happy to say that shortly after the shot, it all got turned into a yummy tomato-scrambled egg breakfast, which was utterly enjoyed by the photographer! :)
I am glad you found the shot appealing/home-made/healthy/appetizing-looking! It was fun making it!
@californialover Oh my - yes! You should come for breakfast! The bread is an amazing creation, called "Roggenkapsel" from the local Trölsch bakery. It's magical, heavy, salty-ish, holds forever since it's just rye, and is just magical with cheese or anything else, for that matter! And yes, it's a window light - kitchen window facing north, just enough to bring out the shapes of the veggies and eggs, as I figured out. What we all learn and pay attention to on 365!
Wow,you have a great eye for food photography!Love how you styled the food and played with the different shapes!I see why you've chosen the butter as the hero of the pic -fabulous texture and color!FAV!
Beautiful Dof and lovely items chosen for their visual quality! It's that wonderfully dense German bread and the butter is so textural in how you've scraped it from the "brick."
But, since you ask for critique, perhaps an alternate version might be: 1) moving the knife handle to the side as if you had just put the knife down to take the photo 2) slicing one tomato so it looks ready to put onto the bread 3) adding the block of butter and moving the knife and butter to that so it would look like you were in the middle of preparing the dish -- right now it looks like you are ready to butter the bread but the tomatoes and egg aren't ready. But I absolutely like this version as is, and these are just alternate ideas! What do you think?
Thank you so much for your comments! This shot was a first for me - as I usually don't do "arranged" shots for the lack of my "arranging skills". I usually find anything that nature or accident can arrange much more appealing than what I can (hence a complete lack of "deco" in my house!) So, I was fascinated to read comments that this "arrangement" looked nice. The light was just a simple light from a north-facing window, which is behind the food. I am glad you all liked the result.
@jyokota Thank you so much for your input! As I mentioned above - i usually not an "arranger" of things, this was a first try for me, and it is great to hear your ideas on possibilities to make this host more appealing. They all are making sense, and I think I could have played with the shot more to try landscape orientation as well. If I invasion the picture you are describing, I see a complete and perfect shot from a fancy gourmet magazine! With the next food shot I will try to think about all of that, but .... I guess it will have to be next time, as I was VERY hungry looking at my breakfast-to-be when I was taking that picture :)
