Oh my. I got it. Feel like Christmas came early. But....
- if you unexpectedly find some money in a long forgotten savings account, and...
- you trade in a bunch of your old gear, and...
- if Fuji gives you $100 discount, and ....
- the store gives you $50 discount, and....
- the Fuji representative throws in FREE vertical grip, you don't say no.
So we have it. A deliriously happy me and a Fuji X-T2 with a kit lens hidden away in a box till the kids go to bed and I can fully devote myself to drooling over it.
I am drinking a glass of wine today! @roulin@pickerandagrinner - thank you so much for advice and information!
BEST strap for the XT2..Deadcameras XL strap. Get it with quick connect and a couple of extra sets of quick connect and use it on all of your cameras. I would put camera on High Performance mode in settings straight away. After using the camera for a while, you will want to customize all of the dedicated function buttons. This way you can access frequently used controls easily. But don't do this until a month out---determine your preferences from use.
I consider a body cover important for when not using grip (I love the grip). BEST body cover is the Gariz model. Kaza also makes nice covers. Also, get a screen saver for the LCD screen. For remote shutter (if you need one) you can buy any Canon compatible remote shutter - compatible with Fuji. I find the Canon model remote shutters are of better quality. Cheap on Ebay. When installing grip, try not to lose the connector cover. It is easy to lose. The body rubber piece installs on a recess on top of the grip.
Lightroom can be a little finicky with Fuji RAW files. Best editor for Fuji images is Iridient Developer (free). It will install as a LR plug-in and you can also use it stand-alone. SilkyPix comes with the camera, it is good too. LR is working hard to better Fuji compatibility. Groove with Fuji Acros BW film simulation -- it is incredible. Enjoy this wonderful camera -- it is a powerhouse!
@pickerandagrinner Thanks! Definitely getting the screen protector ASAP - should have thought about it right in the store. Also ordered Wasabi Batteries - I drained my pretty quickly just learning about the menus and clicking around testing out all kinds of things last night and today. Totally agree that this is a powerhouse! I feel like I am facing an iceberg, just scraping off little pieces while the biggest part is under water. Feels great in the hands though - and very fun to "play" with.
@vera365 Pop the two Wasabis into the grip, problem solved. Used mine yesterday to shoot a charity event for my daughter's foundation. Beautiful imagery, I used the "standard" color setting, great skin tones. It's great to be able to charge the grip batteries using the dedicated cord. To give yourself some flexibility consider getting a lens adapter for your favorite other-brand lenses. You will retain focus peaking. I set focus peaking at red-high. It is a wonderful feature. Nikon is just getting around to this feature....
