They're fuchsia and I actually have two pairs of earrings made in the shape of fuchsia flowers. There are hundreds of varieties of them

PS ... if you break off the green bit you can then suck the nectar from the flower ... we used to do it as children ... fuchsia grows wild along the coastal regions here .... it is a dark red with a purple centre ... the nectar is sweet and gorgeous.
The Fuchsia plant was named after Leonhart Fuchs - born 1501. He occupied the chair of Medicine at the Tübingen University from the age of 34 until his death, on 10 May 1566.
The spelling of the word picks up Fuchs' name : fuchsia! I know it sounds as if the "s" should come before the "c" .... but it doesn't!! The flowers are sometimes called "ladies' ear drops".
