I can not tell you how excited I was when I spotted this lady at the lake today! I didn't even know they were around here! I Googled them to make sure I had the right name and sure enough it really is one, but the real name is BELTED KINGFISHER and I also found out that the female have that reddish band on the chest. It is cropped up a bit because my zoom is only 300mm, but really glad that is the lens I took on my walk today.I had to shoot quick because she didn't stay there for long. *sigh* happy day!

Fabulous shot...great markings and colors! How exciting. I spotted one once on Stats Lake ini Keizer, but it was so far off and I didn't have a good enough zoom lens. Such a beautifully composed shot!
Fabulous capture and she does look ready to 'dive' off! Now I have learnt that your kingfishers are quite different from ours which are orange and electric blue in colour. fav.
