About the same time as the financial crisis in Greece, the train system shut down. There are some trains in Athens, and one that can get you south from Kalambaka to Volos, but basically there is not a dependable train system. All over the country we spotted the rails still in place, but grown over with weeds. Here is the deserted station in Olympia. I took this early morning as we waited for the bus to take us to our next destination.
Gorgeous and moody shot, Vicki. Sorry to hear about the trains, though. We did travel by train from Athens to Thesseloniki, then on to what was then called Yugoslavia. Again, thanks for the reminder of our advendure :-)
