Ah yes, I still have my old Chucks in a drawer somewhere. I literally wore them to pieces, but as you said, they're old friends. Love the detail in this shot, and the "pose" of each shoe. It's more of a portrait than anything else.
@louuncouth Thanks for your comments Lou - funnily enough, a 'portrait' is exactly what I was aiming for. I took the first shot with the boots on a beige shag pile rug and the effect was incongruous... so this version was shot on the concrete floor of my garage - stains and all!
@bassflyer65 I tried this shot in B&W as it was what I had in mind for it, but it lacked punch and character: I've preserved the true colour balance in this version - they really are this colour!
The columbian poet Luis Carlos Lopez published a poem in which he compares his birthplace, Cartagena, with a pair of old shoes. His compatriots weren't sure how to take that, but when the time came to memorialize him, they built him a huge pair of old shoes.
