This week, the B&W Bookclub is all about experimental exposure. I'm not at all comfortable with high-key shots but I suppose I shall have to tackle one before the week is out. For now though, here's a low-key shot lit entirely by the small LED torch in the picture with the help of a small reflector to add some highlights to the body of the torch.
Think I need to stop looking at your shots because they are just way tooooo gooood! Fab. Love it - does look amazing viewed large on black. Am going to have to try something like this at some point this week.... when I am feeling brave.
There's a theme going on today as Pete followed your suggestion and so did his wife. I love glass so you know I love them all. I have to do a bw this week for my get pushed. Not sure where I will go but looking to your pictures for inspiration.
@kporte@tosee Keith, Tom - of course it's a single malt in the glass... err, correction, was a single malt in the glass - a Ledaig from the Isle of Mull. Cheers!
You are such a talented photographer - this is beautifully lit and so clever just with an LED torch. I'm a great fan of high key so will look forward to seeing what you come up with.
Richard your last comment is worth considering. Also I have stumbled across a photography site for my cannon SX40 with some interesting tips for that camera, so I have bought a lens to clip on for macro and will play with that. It really is a great camera and so convent so I will be doing lots of experimenting when the lens comes. Watch this space.
@tigerdreamer@kevin365 Karen, Kevin - I included the torch because I wanted the shot to be a completely stand-alone example of low-key. It looks just fine with the torch cropped out Kevin... just wasn't what I was wanting to show here. On my fourth day on 365, I published my take on a 'pack-shot' for the same whisky - if you haven't seen it, it's here: http://365project.org/vignouse/365/2014-01-04
off to make some shrimp for supper.
