The detail in your macro photography is simply stunning - wonderful light, especially on the wings.

Fantastic macro shot - I tried to get a shot of a wasp that was attempting to force his way into the house this morning. Alas, he died horribly.

goodness! awesome detail... it's positively glistening with pollen!
March 16th, 2014
Great shot, I would be shaking too much if I got that close to a bee. Forgive my ignorance but is that a sack of pollen by the rear leg.
March 16th, 2014
@joansmor Yes Joan, she has pollen baskets (they're called corbicula) attached to her rear legs and she transfers the pollen to the basket with her tongue. I say she, because males do not have pollen baskets.

Tom
Very detailed lovely macro. Do you use an extender on the macro lens to get in that close?
March 16th, 2014
@tosee No Tom, I cheat! I get in as close as I can and then crop the image. With a full-frame sensor, the quality holds up as you can see. I did try extension tubes but the DoF is almost negative!

@vignouse I have heard of this but to see it up close is wonderful.

Wonderful shot and excellent detail.

@vignouse Wonderful shot, and the iridescence of her wings is the icing on the cake! What warm weather you've been having - see how worn her poor back is! I came back from Amsterdam and Canterbury to a high in the 20s F and half an inch of snow overnight - things in bloom already seems like a mere dream!
