Not Christmas... by vignouse

Not Christmas...

... the Holly bushes in the gardens of Paimpont Abbey are in bloom but, as a sign of the very mild if wet Winter, they are still also covered in berries which normally would have been eaten by the birds over the Winter. The bees, however, are not so reticent as you can see in my Doubletakes album posting today.
Lovely detail and clarity. If you used flash, it's nice and natural.

Beautiful colours Richard - great shot!

Very pretty. It does make me think of Christmas. I think you need to take Mrs S and stand under a branch. ;)

@lleo I used a ring-flash Gwenllian, as you can see from the reflection (which I forgot to edit out) on one of the holly leaves.

beautiful image and beautiful lighting.

That's what gave it away -a hint. So that's why it's subtle and effective. I enquired the other day about a ring flash as I have a new macro lens. But it was rather expensive for my Olympus! I like this out of season shot. @vignouse

Lovely capture

@lleo Mine's a Dörr DAF-14 - about £85 from Amazon and it's a true flash, not a LED ring light. I've done a quick & dirty edit in PicMonkey to eliminate most of the reflection!

This is just so wonderful. What a great Christmas card this would make.

Now I understand why you enjoyed looking at the photo of my cat, just like your photo she is also Holly.
I love the clarity and colours of these berries. I agree it would make a nice Christmas card.

Those berries just pop! I love this shot because it shows all the detail of the Holly - leaves, berries and blossom. Super. Fav

Gorgeous shot, I am YOUR get-pushed_93 partner this week. How about shooting an action shot, with a fast moving object. Either blurred or panned to get subject in focus and background out of focus.

@trinda Well Trinda, that is certainly something I've never done, so it will be a groundbreaker for me. Thank you (I think!) for the challenge...

Lovely, feels like time for some mulled wine!

Do you know, I have never noticed the blossom on a Holly bush. This is a very lush shot with great dof. And I learnt something from it!
