My Get Pushed challenge for this week is going to require me to do some 1970s type news reporting in B&W so I thought I ought to give the monochrome picture style a try before I got started. This was taken with the Nex 7 and 30mm lens and the monochrome picture style appears to be rather contrasty.
I rather liked this little boat family on the banks of the Vienne at Chinon... Mr & Mrs Boat and their offspring, Dinghy!
Beautiful capture. Lone the B&W. Mine doesn't come out of the camera looking this good. I like that pov. I must remember this one.I know just the place to use it.
@janiskay If your Monochrome picture style is not "contrasty" enough, you can always edit and save the style to add contrast and sharpness, and then apply the edited style.
This got a "Ooo, great pic!" upon arrival. The POV gives the image that sense of surprise you get when you come over a knoll and discover something interesting. I like your comparison to the group being a family. It does look like they're sticking together through thick and thin.
Thanks for that nod of approval on the old desk shot. *grin*
@lyndemc I am not a great fan of holding the camera at crazy angles, Denise but with a normal PoV there was absolutely no dynamic tension in this image at all. I recomposed taking care to avoid including anything which would reveal that the camera was actually at a 45 deg angle and was quite pleased with the change in the vibrancy of the composition.
@joansmor Hi Joan - as soon as I spotted the three boats I knew that there were the makings of a strong image but it took a while to find a PoV that realised that potential.
@vignouse Thank you for that. I was afraid you would think I gave you an "interesting" comment. But I was interested in your thought process. Because I struggle and sometimes cannot work it out and feel sorta out of sorts.
This is marvellous and love the family of boats and the reflections in the water and in the boats.
Did you say you took this with the NEX 7 and is straight out of the camera? I am conserving getting a mirrorless interchangeable lens camera for my son. What are your thoughts on them?
@dibzgreasley Hi Debs - yes, like all my shots this month this is sooc, no cropping, nothing... and the lens was a Sigma 30mm f/2.8 - 45mm equivalent focal length on the `Nex 7, which is the nearest thing I have to a 'nifty-fifty' for the Nex.
I bought the Nex as a smaller camera to take away with us in the RV and I've recently added a Nex 6 body. The two bodies, six lenses and a flash all go into a small square camera bag and the whole lot weighs less than 2 Kg - that's less than one of my full-frame Nikons and one lens! I like the mirror-less cameras very much and I'm very happy with the electronic viewfinder - the best thing is, you can see exactly what are going to get as you adjust the settings and you can see the finished image without taking your eye from the viewfinder.
The Nex 6 and 7 have now been replaced by the A6000 which has received excellent reviews. I would certainly buy another mirror-less - I suggest you also look at the Fuji range and Olympus... the EM-10 is excellent value for money. Both the Fuji and the Olympus have a wider range of lenses than Sony.

Hope this helps Debs...
