This is the 'serious business' department of a Harley Davidson 1250cc VSRC (V-Twin Racing Street Custom) Cruiser Motorcycle spotted today in the Loire Valley town of Amboise. Harleys look nice and sound nice but they're more for posing around town than for serious motorcycling ;-)
Little known fact: HD have patented the sound their engines make... yes, really. It's described in the patent as the sound that results when you say the word 'potato' repeatedly in a monotone... try it if you don't believe me.
Now that's some serious power. I'm sure it would help me do a ton were I in charge! The last time that happened was in the 60s when I was a passenger doing a ton on the road to Belfast!
@soboy5 If I remember correctly Danny, it was the first Harley engine to feature twin OHCs and liquid cooling and was also a 60 deg V-twin, a departure from HD's traditional 45 deg motors. This one looked very pretty but like all HD's (IMHO) it's a triumph of form over function - sorry, I'm a died-in-the-wool sports bike fan... but I absolutely love V-twin engines.
@ceilidh These days Margaret, the fastest sports bikes aspire to a double ton and I guess you might feel a little less cool about that! This particular bike can easily do 'the ton' and a lot more but you wouldn't be very comfortable doing it... this one's function is cool street cruiser.
@janiskay What I liked about this one is that the steel is satin finish stainless rather than actual chrome and the alloy parts are satin finished to match... it's a very handsome bike,
@jocasta Thanks Joy, the variety comes mainly from the fact that the challenge is forcing me to become much more observant, but the month does look a bit eclectic in calendar view, I admit ;-)
Are you thinking to upgrade to the new D750? I just saw the specs. Sort of what the D610 should have been I think? The native ISO is bumped up another stop, on a par with the D810 at least on paper. Even a titling screen now. But still a few quirks - AA filter is back and I still think 3 frame auto brackets or did I misread? Three new full frame cameras in 9 months. I wonder, do the Nikon product managers even talk to each other? :)
@frankhymus This is the first I've heard of it Frank, but then Mrs S and I are away on holiday in our RV so I'm not doing much surfing.. I was seriously considering getting a Df for its low-light performance so I'll check out the specs. Curiously enough, I'm really enjoying shooting with the D5100.
@vignouse Hope you are seeing lots in your RV. A Df? Expensive retro gimmick in my humble opinion. The D4 sensor with superb low light performance, but paired with an Auto Focus that struggles as soon as the light level drops? Makes little sense to me. But I guess it looks cool. :) The D5100 is nice camera. I shot with it for some time as my primary, and still have it as a digital backup. Personally, I think it has the Canon Rebels beat on almost all levels. And I do know the Canons fairly well; my niece is a Canon rep back in Australia.
Funny I think of them as old men's bikes any more. Seems like all the old man drive these huge bikes with their wives on their huge bikes. Handsome bikes but huge.
A great capture Richard I love the shapes and the light and shade but I fear engines are something that live under the bonnet and hopefully don't let me down. My husband would love this though.
@vignouse Just looked closer at the D750 spec sheet. Still haven't seen one live. It does have 5 and 7 auto bracket options, huge upgrade from the D610, "improved" D810 51 point auto focus system, now at 15 cross-type sensors, ISO rating of the D810, one full stop higher than the D610, the D810 video improvements, still not 4K of course, the "tilt screen," fast at 6.5 frames/second raw. It really looks attractive. Some say this is the sign that Nikon is pushing away from the APS-C format, no D300S successor and certainly no D7200 seem to be on the horizon. So perhaps I move this next year to FX. The D750 is an extremely nice upgrade from the D610 it seems.
@frankhymus ~Yes, I found that info myself Frank: at the moment my D610 is my number one camera with the D600 in second place, after 6 months, when they have ironed any bugs out, I could see myself replacing the D600 with the D750... interesting times.
Hi Richard, I've been absent form 365 for a few days so just catching up on some of your shots. This one really caught my eye in your calendar, I love how you've filled the frame and all this shapes. fav
