NF-SOOC-September - Day 21: 19th C BC (Before Cars)

This image is for NF-SOOC-September - you can read more about it here: http://365project.org/discuss/themes-competitions/23475/back-to-basics-who-s-up-for-a-big-challenge-in-september

Today is the Fête Européen de Patrimoine - European Heritage Day when entry to all historic buildings, places and museums is free and many of these are only open to the public on this one day of the year.

We spent the day with friends visiting three châteaux and two historic manor houses. Photography was very difficult because of the crowds of visitors and their vehicles: if I could do some cropping and post-processing I would have lots of useable images... but as I can't, I'm posting this image taken early in the day.

This is part of the stable block in the grounds of the Château de Couëllan with some of the many horse drawn vehicles in the château's collection. This scene looks much as it might have looked on a Sunday morning 150 or 200 years ago.
The shot could really make you feel like you are back in history as you say. You seem to be having a lovely vacation.

I have a finalist for period things. Perhaps I lived in those times in another life. I love the buildings made of stone they're absolutely gorgeous. I love horse drawn carriage and other wheeled objects.

@frankhymus Thanks Frank - there are lots more of these but they were inside the unlit stables and all crammed close together so impossible to produce a decent image. This château is a private home and only open on this one day - the collection is a private one and not arranged for public viewing.

Those carriages look so uncomfy, must've been hard work to travel in them.

Lovely trip to the past picture. A reminder of an elegant if uncomfortable era. Katharine

BC — before cars. Good one. Such interesting items parked outside this stone structure. Just imagine the stories they have to tell. The SOOC color is great as is the comp and focus.

I just love this!! What a lovely composition, a 'fun' image in that it takes us back in time. It looks unchanged (but in such good condition of course it's been maintained). What a photographic treat to be able to do a trip there.
