Tales of the river bank...

One of the many small streams that feed a network of balancing reservoirs that previously provided hydraulic power for the iron smelting and forging industry for which Paimpont was famous, and which now, in more rural times, ensure Paimpont's water supply.

Beautiful textures and diagonal lines from the trees. The ripples in the stream are very zen.

Seems you have a punch of frost and it is acting almost like glowing edges. It also make me feel chilled. We are going to celebrate Noah's ark here instead of a white Christmas.

Fabulous detail and it works so well in b&w.

@joansmor I confess to cheating Joan - sorry, I meant to say using 'artistic licence'! The temperature was actually 10 C (50F) when I took this but frost was exactly what I wanted to portray: the trees and the banks of the stream are thick with green moss, so in editing I upped the green channel so that the greens rendered nearly white... et voilĂ  - frost. Don't tell any one else though... let it be our secret ;-)

@vignouse Well, I did wonder at the free flowing stream.

Another interesting take on the puzzle of organizing the forest enough to show up in a photograph.

@francoise Thanks Françoise - I enjoy the forest so much that I'm determined to find a way to capture in a photo what I see with my eye - I'm getting there slowly, I think.

Very interesting info about this place. Surely we should return to hydraulic power more now, with fossil fuels running low. lovely shot - Lucy
