In the spotlight...

Today's offering for B&W February spotlighting (!) the use of negative space and simplicity of composition.

Views best on black - unsurprisingly!

Really nice work, Richard!

@miata2u Thank you Peggy - she has some similarities with that breed but she is in fact a Coton de Tuléar, a breed originally from Madagascar.

What a lovely shot! I wonder if you cropped from the right, she might have the negative space to the left and will pull the subject just off center. Great shot Richard!

Your dog is so cute! Wonderful capture!

@darylo Thanks for your comments Daryl - rightly or wrongly, I deliberately cropped this in from both sides to give a square format. I tried other options but I preferred the square crop and centre placing with the spotlight effect. It's all in the eye of the beholder...

Beautifully lit!

Simplicity is hard to do well. It's like recipes with very few ingredients and steps - no place to hide. Always important to use quality materials. And thus you have used a star in Mitzi.

What a beautiful portrait!
February 7th, 2015
Love the spotlight effect in this b&w photo of Mitzi!
What a sweetie!
Did you do the dark background in PS or LR?
February 7th, 2015
@radiogirl hi Kathy: LR - two radial filters one on top of the other... one to adjust the background and the other to adjust Mitzi..

so cute... what is her breed?
February 8th, 2015
Love little Mitzi doggie! Unsurprisingly, I really like the spotlighting technique and the square crop. I tried a few squares today but they hit the floor. I think she'd make a great album cover. :)
