Forges de Paimpont: Derelict Worker's Cottage

Part of Paimpont's historic past is that for hundred's of years its prosperity derived from iron mining, smelting and forging... although you wouldn't guess that if you visit today. This industrial activity took place in an area which is still known today as Forges de Paimpont. Many of the buildings remain, although they are - with a couple of exceptions - unrestored and derelict. Apart from the industrial buildings, there are also rows of small workers cottages: this one - being rather grand and detached - would have been provided for the site manager.

Looks better on black if you care to click and see.
Beautiful, as always!

Wonderful building and capture!

Wonderful bw. Love old buildings it seems you can shot them from a hundred different views. And there is so much history attached. Do you every wonder if in 50-75 years someone will be photographing your home as an old building and what they will wonder about it.

@takcarol Thank you Caroline - you'll probably be amused to know that when I had finished processing it, I thought this image was too sharp so what you see here has had a 20 pixel 35% gaussian blur applied to soften it down a bit and make it look more 'cottagey' and less industrial!

This is lovely Richard. Just look those tones! No burned out areas, the odd patch of black and all shades of grey in between. And of course it is so well composed. It would be good to see all your b/w Paimpont photos in a book! Fav!
