Duck Falls by vignouse

Duck Falls

This is in the Parish Gardens at Paimpont and is one of a series of little cascades which water draining from the forest must negotiate on its way to Paimpont Lake. There is a large colony of Mallards on the main lake but I noticed about a week ago that this lone male seems to like it here. This morning, I was taken by the way he was standing at the top of this little cascade.
Wonderfully composed and I love the way the colours seem to pop from the image! Fav!

A very pretty area and your mallard looks like he owns the falls :)

He's being King of the Hill or his Domain!! Sort of like he is claiming this spot for himself!!!

Beautiful color and texture (HDR?). I especially love the bubbles on the water below the falls and the moss on the trees behind. Lovely details.

very nice

@judithaltman Thank you Judith - no it's not HDR but I did boost the mid-rage contrasts, usually known as tone-mapping, which is oftena part of HDR processing.

Oh what a pretty woodland shot Richard!
I love how you captured the mallard just meandering along the water.
I have such difficulty taking waterfalls, I will need to practice more when things start to melt here. I noticed your aperture was at 2.8 and you have great detail, did you use 2.8 because it was dark in the woods?

What a lovely shot. I am so jealous of your touches of green. Our photos of running water have such different surroundings. And no duckies in the water. He looks like a happy child splashing in a puddle.

Hi Kathy and thanks for commenting. Waterfalls are best done with a tripod but I took this whilst taking the dog for a walk, so I had to manage without. My camera settings were a bit of a compromise. The effective focal length was 70mm so didn't want to drop below 1/60 sec to avoid camera shake and as this camera has a small 1" sensor, I didn't want to go higher than 800 ISO to avoid too much noise so f/2.8 it had to be. Although the effective focal length was 70mm, the actual focal length was 25.7mm and the DoF is related to the actual focal length rather than the effective FL so there was still adequate DoF to record detail in the foreground, mid-ground and the background. Hope this helps...

I love the title that goes with this great shot. The water in the shot is wonderful. I love the woodland setting and the lone drake.
