This is the village of Gaël in northern Brittany looking south towards the village centre. This shows how even tiny villages have an imposing church around which the houses are clustered. Just behind where this was taken are a few more houses and then open countryside. I like the feeling that the imposing church is standing guard over the village and its inhabitants.
@aglennc The eternal question Anita! I waited until one minute before midnight humming and hahing between B&W and colour before I posted this version. In my early days on here, I often posted both versions and, predictably, 50% liked one version and 50% the other! I actually think that it is important for our growth as photographers that we make a clear decision and then learn from it... but sometimes it's hard!
I think I've told you this before, but when my dh and I travel along the St Lawrence River to Gaspe the one thing we noticed is that coming into each village was the church. You could spot it from a long distance away. As beautiful as some of the Cathedrals are these smaller churches just have a lovely look and feel to them. I think you have captured that here.
thank you so much for sharing these glimpses
I am terrible at making decisions about photos but generally ok the rest of the time
for me b&w either removes distractions or accentuates positives
I am guessing in colour the sky may be a distraction to the spire
I frequently can't decide between the mono or color either. I agree sometimes you just have to pick and live with it.
