Gaël by vignouse

Gaël

This is the village of Gaël in northern Brittany looking south towards the village centre. This shows how even tiny villages have an imposing church around which the houses are clustered. Just behind where this was taken are a few more houses and then open countryside. I like the feeling that the imposing church is standing guard over the village and its inhabitants.

View on black if you can...
I just love this. So typically French...

Love this village scene and would like to see it in color too.

LOVE it in mono! Give such an old world charm.

@aglennc The eternal question Anita! I waited until one minute before midnight humming and hahing between B&W and colour before I posted this version. In my early days on here, I often posted both versions and, predictably, 50% liked one version and 50% the other! I actually think that it is important for our growth as photographers that we make a clear decision and then learn from it... but sometimes it's hard!

Always the lovely church spires in France and the huddle of old houses still lived in! I did love seeing this!

I think I've told you this before, but when my dh and I travel along the St Lawrence River to Gaspe the one thing we noticed is that coming into each village was the church. You could spot it from a long distance away. As beautiful as some of the Cathedrals are these smaller churches just have a lovely look and feel to them. I think you have captured that here.

I love all the soft greys here.
I frequently can't decide between the mono or color either. I agree sometimes you just have to pick and live with it.

What a lovely image!

It's a charming scene, with the road as leading line, and the steeple drawing my eye into the village. The clouds add elements of interest as well.

nice

The huddled houses in the gift of their protective church, with more beyond. A close community with a church for all. Long may it continue

Simple and lovely in b&w.

Sometime the "on black" is take it or leave it to me, but in this one, the dark frame really lets the village, the clouds etc. glow.

Gorgeous

thank you so much for sharing these glimpses
I am terrible at making decisions about photos but generally ok the rest of the time
for me b&w either removes distractions or accentuates positives
I am guessing in colour the sky may be a distraction to the spire
