In a shopping mall, you see all sorts of folk: purposeful shoppers, aimless wanderers, those who've come in to warm-up or cool-off depending on the season, those in search of food... but this man seemed to have an entirely different agenda.
Seen in the Atlantis Shopping Centre, Nantes today.
How do you get such a sharp image ........... this amazes me! I realize it must have something to do with your settings plus your lens. MAYBE one of these days someone around here will offer lessons. Until then I will keep reading, practicing, and trial and error. fav
@essiesue It's not really a black art Sue - you need to consider what DoF you need and set the aperture accordingly, choose your point of focus carefully and make sure that you have chosen an appropriate focus zone in camera. With these three things in mind, any camera should produce a sharp image... the one I used here was a little compact camera, the Sony RX100 Mk.3 and it was sitting on my knee when I took this photo.
The first thing that struck me, and several others, about this was the floor. Swiftly superseded by the sameness of everyone...jeans and T shirt, aka Clone Kit. Seems odd in this huge mall where so many of the stores sell clothing!
This photo resonates with social comment. Excellent, MEGA fave.
@essiesue You're welcome Sue - I didn't mention it because it will be a given for most people, but the camera's sensor size also has a big effect on DoF and therefore the extent of the zone of sharpness in an image for any given aperture. The Sony RX100 I was using here has 1" sensor so at f/4 it will have roughly the same DoF as a full frame camera at f/8-f/11; with the restricted amount of light in the mall this obviously worked to my advantage. Good luck with your mission!
A man in his own world. Is technology distancing us from each other? Well thank goodness here one 365 it brings us together. Fab bw and candid. Easy to snap a candid but harder to find one that has something in it that catches the eye. I realize this more and more as I see the pictures in my feed.
Outstanding, nicely done! I love my RX100. I have the Mk2, did you notice the Mk4 is already out? And I just bought my Mk2 last year...good grief! But they *finally* put in the ability to set minimum shutter speed on Auto ISO. I use my Mk2 in shutter priority mode most of the time due to lack of ability to set a minimum shutter speed. I digress. Very nice image!
Fantastic shot! The man in the foreground is definitely the main subject and he looks as though he is lost in his own world even though he is surrounded by others, and then plenty for the eye to take in behind him. Love it!
