This is a view of some of the standing stones at Monteneuf to the south of the Brocéliande Forest. There are 420 menhirs in total, spread over a site of 18 acres, of which 42 are standing today. The site dates from the neolithic period around 6,500 years BC, although archaeologists have found evidence of man's presence on this site through the ages to the present day. There are many similarities with the numerous other sites of this type throughout Europe, but their purpose and use remains a mystery that can still scarcely be guessed at.
Are you familiar with the author Diana Gabaldon. Her series outlander series features standing stones in the story. Love that we have mysteries that remain unexplained but very real.
