On the Draining Board... by vignouse

On the Draining Board...

...don't you just hate it when you have cleared away, washed up and dried the dishes and then you find a few utensils that never made it into the washing-up bowl and have to be dealt with separately - so it was this lunchtime.

Yes, it's been raining all day again today!

Yes, this gives of its best viewed on black!
I know the feeling - what os more disturbing is that we have those exact glasses, also bought from Ikea.

Ah now Richard, I'm quite happy to acknowledge you as a great photographer ( this shot shows you can make even a domestic scene look exceptional) but now you make me feel I,m not pulling my weight around the house. Thanks mate..

@jack4john You have jumped to conclusions: I never actually said that it was me who does the washing-up, and, in fact, I rarely do... I do do the cooking though ;-))

@graemestevens That's globalisation for you!
November 6th, 2015
Very nice composition.
November 7th, 2015
@aat3877 Thank you, but the composition is down to Mrs S who did the supplementary washing-up... I just snapped the results!

@vignouse There's no Ikea in NZ (I'm not sure if that's a good thing or not)...we bought ours from their Croydon shop

wow. A wonderful image of a mundane moment..
November 7th, 2015
Oh you made the ordinary extraordinary
November 7th, 2015
very nice!

TR
You take the mundane and make it look great in a photo.

Tom
Lovely use of the light and focus, rich in detail and textures
November 7th, 2015
I like the crispness of this picture. Maybe it's the B&W talking. Like others have said, you've created art out of ordinary.
November 7th, 2015
Great composition, shapes, clarity
November 7th, 2015
Frankly if the dishes don't make it to the dishwasher then they stay where they are - it teaches them a lesson!
November 7th, 2015
Totally relate to this shot! Funny how you can make the mundane look so artistic.
November 7th, 2015
I like the lines and different reflective surfaces :)
November 7th, 2015
I can relate!
November 7th, 2015
Qualité quotidien!
November 7th, 2015
aah but you would never have noticed the refractions and reflections if they had been with all the others
November 7th, 2015
Looks metallic!
November 7th, 2015
Worth overlooking them if it led to this shot, Richard! Love the refraction
November 7th, 2015
@yrhenwr This is actually your doing! I was thinking about your 100 photos in 30 minutes, so I started wandering around the house, camera in hand... This is one of the resulting images - and I posted it because I liked it, with no other thought in mind!
November 7th, 2015
I haven't had much luck wandering around the house. Your photo is great.
November 7th, 2015

very good idea , I did not do the dishes myself ... so I 'd rather not take a picture of my kitchen or I'll feel guilty being out taking photos rather than the household !
November 7th, 2015
great composition, Margaret is an artist in the kitchen!
November 7th, 2015
@vignouse Way to go, Richard! You are the only person you need to please/satisfy/impress….! I am thinking of repeating that project with my little Lumix G5, with its four-thirds lenses, to to find out how the equipment affects the kind of photos I take. Of course, then I will need several other cameras with which to do the same….! I already have a couple of old 35mm film cameras (without suitable lenses) then I would have to try medium format, then 5x4, then 10x8…..this could get expensive!
November 7th, 2015
Neat shot, my dh did the dishes and I cooked. I miss him a ton just for that. And always find something that got missed and it is only me.
November 7th, 2015
This is really very good, Richard. Seeing the shot and the sympathetic processing. If only there had been only three knives - three "items", one glass, two cup & saucer and three knives.
November 7th, 2015
yes, that is why I have a dishwasher that I can stick everything in and hide them until it is time to wash them.
November 7th, 2015
@yrhenwr 100 images in 30 mins with a plate camera... now that would be something!
November 7th, 2015
You make the ordinary look extraordinary - I especially love all the detail in the glass. Many thanks for your continued support of my photos - it keeps me going.
November 7th, 2015
@jocasta It works both ways - I regard you as a barometer that I trust.
November 7th, 2015
this is so pleasing. the light, the lines and squares, the reflections and the refraction it's exquisite really. I could live without the biggest knife I think. It glares a little on my screen.
November 7th, 2015
@carla42 Thanks Carla - the biggest knife is not in fact the brightest part of the image, this scene was not posed, I just came upon it in the kitchen and snapped it as it was.
November 8th, 2015
Wonderful capture, processing!!
November 8th, 2015
Excellent light! Love the way the glass alters those squares
