Vespa Velutina Nigrithorax... by vignouse

Vespa Velutina Nigrithorax...

...otherwise known as the Asian Hornet which has colonised mainland Europe in great numbers. It's favourite food (sadly) is bees... and, it would seem. my Mirabelles! (I like this view with the thorax turned downwards because it shows off his 'wasp waist' - I always wonder why the thorax doesn't just drop off!)
I like that you've caught a perfectly symmetrical view of the wasp. Sorry for your mirabelles though

What a great name....I love saying it out loud ha ha
love the PoV showing off the waistline too
shame about the bees...they are a struggling species in many parts of the world.

The fact they kill bees makes it hard to appreciate any of his beauty. Super macro capture tho!

A fabulous shot, great detail. But at this time where the bees are under threat, we really don't need this wasp.

That looks like you were pushing the envelope to get this shot. I hope you remained sting free! Great macro! FAV!

Fabulous macro, Richard!

Terrific macro, I don't think I would have been able to hold the camera steady that close to one of these beasties!

Better on fruit flesh than human flesh. Formidable shot!

it's hard not to love a fellow fruit-lover, but I don't. Prefer pictures of them to their actual presence, however.

A super close up capture. Fav!! 😀 I was once stung by one a few years ago in Kos. Such intense pain, far worse than a wasp or bee sting.

Hope it doesn't cross the channel.. although in a healthily functioning natural environment predators do seem to benefit the predated. Magnificent shot! Fav

Too bad for your miradells. Glad no photographer was harmed in the taking of the photo
