Paimpont 2018: Day 34 - Trumpeting the Good News

We had a Hunting Horn concert in Paimpont Abbey this evening... this is Philippe kicking off the second half from the 17thC elevated pulpit. What I particularly like is that the statue above his head is the Angel of Good News... that seems worth trumpeting!

It's BoB for me!
wow I would never have guessed there could be such a thing as a hunting horn concert - I'm going to be smiling all day!

Nice pic - lovely tones and interesting subject. I went into a church once (along one of the French canals - maybe at Briare) and they must have been having the same ceremony - there were lots of beagles as well as horns and horses.

Well organised with great DOF. How do they get different notes on this horn, do you know? He's dressed appropriately but there are no foxhounds around - just as well!

@maggiemae How do they get different notes? Well when you play a brass or silver instrument the sound is formed, effectively, by blowing a 'raspberry' into the mouthpiece and the tension in your lips will determine the pitch of the note produced.

@jeneurell Hi Jennifer, unless it was some local hunters' fête, I would guess that it was the 3rd November which is the fête day of St. Hubert the patron saint of hunters.
