Poultry Shed

If you eat mass-produced chicken then the chances are that it spent its statutory 56 days of life in a building like this... along with 9999 others of course...

View this how you like - but please view it!
Horrid!

those repeating lights are really cool (and yes, I do know about factory and intensive farming, I'd very happily not eat meat at all, ever, after living near what was the largest calf market in Europe for some year.)

@shannejw Thanks Shanne - they're infra-red heat lamps to ensure the 'optimum conditions' for growth.

There are some great lines in this picture on every surface. Interesting that you've found one empty and out of service. Excellent photo op. Sad place for a chicken to have spent its sorry little life though.

@lyndemc It's not out of service - it's just been cleaned and disinfected ready for the next batch.

Great perspective. I streets a sad place for a chicken to spend it's life.

great lines and perspective - I buy free range eggs and most of the time RSPCA or FREPA approved chicken

When I buy uncooked chicken I buy Bell and Evans - they are humane. And it tastes better.

I’m vegetarian so don’t eat meat but I do eat eggs and buy free range.
We have similar animal care issues here in New Zealand

I like the sense of perspective in this shot Richard. I'm staying outta the hot spot.

I hope all those chickens escaped :)

Stop, rather than pause for thought. Whilst I eat meat, I could happily stop eating it.

yeah, no, that's the reason i don't eat meat - I just can't support these industries. Does that mean this is no longer a working poultry farm? I love the shot because it is empty :)

It is awful how the poultry are kept in these places!

It is a reminder to us all. Great picture and its massive! Fav

An excellent shot with nice textures and leading lines - just a pity about the use that this space is for.

Great photo but gruesome thought - that's why I stick to organic chicken.

As others have said great lines and photo. I’m eating organic meat .....

@vignouse Then that's extra good timing, your catching this excellent B&W opportunity.

It nice to see it empty. Hopefully the building will be used for something else. Lovely image.

I've been in one once. Didn't realize it was so big because it was fully of chickens and straw at the time.

I like the formality. This is no way to treat animals! Go organic, I say, and if that's too expensive then eat smaller portions!
