30 Shots for April - Day 28: Willow Pattern China

@annied is hosting a challenge for April to take 30 shots of the same subject - since I've been struggling for inspiration all year, I've chosen to join in just for the fun of it. I have decided that my subject will be the glass cabinet in our kitchen - here's the twenty-eighth glimpse of what you might find within...

...two willow pattern plates and a mug. I'm not a great fan of willow pattern china but these are rather old and nicely done.
they are lovely and add to the breadth of variety in the cabinet - very nice!

Am fascinated by the large cup, have no idea where it came from and it deserves a place here.

it almost seems obligatory to have the white and blue china when you have a glass cabinet. you own some very wonderful pieces in that cabinet.

Lovely on white!

The white background and high key lighting is the perfect choice for shooting this blue willow patterned china.

So good against that white background.

A treasure many of us have :)

Richard I am intrigued by your staging set up! Would you be able (willing!) to tell me how you have achieved the pure black and white backdrops. Thank you :)

My mother had some similar but they came from the grocery store you got so many pieces depending on how much you spent each week. But I am sure yours are a higher quality.

you can see how this is an older more traditional version of willow pattern - beautifully set up and staged

Love it ...

@brigette Hi Brigette - these were done in a light tent lit from both sides but any diffused source of light would do the job. For the white backgrounds I light both the white background and the object I'm photographing and over expose by at least a stop; final adjustments are done in post-processing. For the black backgrounds I light only the subject - keeping as. much of the light as I can off the black background - and under expose by at least a stop... again, final adjustments are done in post-processing. Hope this helps...

I couldn't possibly have anything as breakable as these in or out of a glass fronted cabinet! Superbly photographed. Fav.

Cheers Richard, I'm on my way out. it's been good to follow your works and exchange comments with you.

@yrhenwr On your way out... sad, very sad!

Lovely blue and white patterns...Your cabinet must look neat in person with all of the different shapes, colors, textures displayed together.

I love the willow pattern and used it for years as my everyday dishes. Great shot of it.

Ha ha, I only heard about that challenge today by seeing your post, so I think I have missed the boat somewhat! What an interesting idea. I shall go and explore the rest of your month. Willow Pattern is a favourite of mine too.

The willow pattern brings back so many memories. My mother had quite a large collection and they were always given pride of place in our family home.
