A Year of Days: Day 238 - Wall to Wall Mirabelles...

... is all you could see in our kitchen today. Our Mirabellier has produced a heavy crop this year and they are just on the point of being perfectly ripe. Consequently the high winds we have had yesterday and today have brought most of them down. Mrs S has been very busy gathering them all up and washing and sorting them... now we've only got to decide what to do with them all! This isn't 1% of the crop, so you can imagine how colourful our kitchen looks right now!
Looks like a big job! Curious as to what the options are? Love he tinge of red on the skins.

@janiskay Options? Eat some, freeze some, make jam with some, give some away, make mirabelle liqueur with some - this is my favourite choice ;-)

@vignouse I probably would have guess your favorite. Can you freeze the juice? I don't think I have ever had orange jam but I think I would like it. I had marmalade when I was young but never cared for it.

@janiskay Mirabelles are small golden plums Janice, about the size of a large marble.

The guy across the street has three different plum trees and they are loaded too. He told my nephew (who has bounded with him over gardens) that he can have a bucketful. Jam sounds wonderful. Then when winter comes you can have a taste of summer.

This shot belies much unseen effort...and more, much more yet to come. Fav...'cos it rewards the effort of us both.
