OCOLOY Day 123: Childrens' Pottery Workshop

This is another from the street fair at Concoret yesterday. Philippe - the local potter - had brought along a pottery wheel and was encouraging youngsters to try their hand. This little boy is obviously a natural and was making a wonderful job of fashioning a small pot. The image is from yesterday and the terms of my project prevent me from editing out some of the distractions but I just loved the passion and commitment in this too much not to post it today.

As always, this image is SOOC and is part of my ongoing OCOLOY project - you can read more about it in my profile.

The distractions are lessened viewed on black...
Always good to see a skill being passed on from one generation to the next.

Philippe looks so pleased, even his hands, and what a priceless concentration on the boy's face. I'm glad you decided to ost this.

"Ost" is Scatterbrainian for "share on the internet." It comes from the English "post," but as Scatterbrainians prefer to aspirate as little as possible the vernacular form soon developed.

Wonderful capture. The man is happy to find such a good student and the student is so totally immersed in the project.

Great image - he certainly looks like he knows what he is doing. I love the way the instructor potter is holding his hands together.

Great image, an artist capturing an artist mentoring an artist. It's all very meta ;)

He really got stuck in, the look of concentration and the other of pleasure - you have captured this so well.

All of the above - and then just, fav!

What a lovely shot, Richard. The concentration on the boys face, his hands working on the clay, the movement of the wheel and the pleasure shown on the face and by the hands of the instructor.. just great. Not to mention the b&w which for me adds a sense of nostalgia ...and also tells us that this is the 'real thing'... no frivolous distraction from the serious business! If you wanted the viewers full attention on the subject you would crop it, but the background provides further context so i think its fine. Fav to the power of N, where N is a very large positive integer!

A lot of feeling here -- really conveys a message perhaps of "passing on the skill" echoing @yrhenwr 's comments just above.
