The CGT (Confédération Générale du Travail) - France's largest trade union - has a (well deserved) reputation for being rather militant. It consists of over 700 individual unions many of which have to do with transport and associated industries. I'm sure that many of you will have seen on your televisions that it's members are currently holding the country to ransom by cutting off fuel and power supplies in an attempt to force the government into abandoning its new employment bill, which has already had most of the substance torn out of it.
Mitzi obviously has some sympathy with the movement as she refused to budge whilst out on our afternoon walk!
As usual, this image is SOOC and is part of my ongoing OCOLOY project - you can read more about it in my profile.
The joys of living in France. You need to call in the riot police - a water cannon and some tear gas seemed to get them moving this morning in Marseille.
@maggiemae It means we can't get fuel for the cars and especially our Camping Car. Mrs S is about 450 km south of me at the moment staying with some friends; I am due to meet up with her with the CC on Sunday and then spend three weeks touring in the south of France. It's not going to happen as on the rare occasions when we can get fuel - after up to a 2 hour wait - it's limited to 20€ worth and you burn at least half of that just getting it.
@laroque The worst of it is Tim that we'll suffer for 2 or 3 weeks as the country grinds to a halt and then - despite all the current posturing - Hollande and Valls will fold. Whatever tattered remains of the law El Khomri are left, they will be completely ineffective, the country will be even deeper in the mire and the unions even more firmly entrenched in their view that might is right. Sigh...
@vignouse We may be shielded from the worst of it by being close to Spain, but our local filling station has remained open and the worst I have seen is a queue of two or three cars at each pump. That said, they were blocking the autoroute (lorries only) yesterday. I had a planned visit to Aigues Mortes last year destroyed by a rail strike, so I have sympathy for your worries about your holiday plans.
Perhaps Mitzi, is sitting in protest to the actions of CGT. CGT have long been very good at strikes and holding the public to ransom. Suspect that it being in advance of football thingie isn't a co-incidence. Hope you get sorted with fuel.
