The soft amongst the hard by vikdaddy

The soft amongst the hard

I only took a few snaps today before my battery started to run out. The Canon S90 is a great little camera, but the battery takes a hammering, so I'll need to buy a new one to keep with me as a reserve. As the red battery icon continued to flash, I came across a feather protruding amongst some pebbles.

What I liked was the dichotomy of the soft and delicate object amongst the hard. I made the colours of the pebbles more vibrant in post-processing, and I like the variety of tones.

I learnt something else today. I won't impress everybody with my photos, so just try to impress myself first and foremost. Some people couldn't get past the subject matter in yesterday's photo, and although I suggested that they look at the image in an abstract way, some brains are simply hard-wired to interpret images for what they are. There's no getting past that. It's like those illusions where it can be interpreted as a beautiful lady or a witch. People have different mindsets, and some are naturally more creative and abstract.

Oooh, I like your study of a similar concept far better than mine. This is lovely.

I'm not looking at every picture, so as I write on this 2nd one, I'm curious to see the one you're speaking abuot. What *does* stand out here is your understanding that youre not to worry so much about us, your audience, but take pictures that feel right to you each day, and enjoy learing the post processing effects that interest you. That said, many of us have a favorite photographer here by the name of Peter van Allen. This picture of yours is a bit like his work...and he's quite good, so that's a big compliment to you!

As I look through your photos I am more and more impressed. Your subject matter, your framing, the colors - you really are very aware of your surroundings and very talented at conveying that.
There are many reasons people participate in 365. I do it as a photojournal. Even though I'm not that far into my 365 days, I find when I look back at my photos I remember the moment, the entire day, the weather and all the little details. For me, it's better than the written journal I keep - one glance and it all comes back instead of having to read pages of written word. In about a month or so, go back and take a look at some of your first photos. You may be surprised that you will suddenly remember things like the feeling that came over you when you saw this feather among the rocks. I look forward to many more of your photos.
