My tripod arrived today! I haven't used it yet, but I plan on doing so soon. I went into town today and intended on buying a second hand lens too but the shop had sold the one I wanted, which is Canon's 17-85mm f/4-5.6. It seems like a decent walkabout lens to replace the kit lens that came with the 450D. If you've got one or have experience of one, let me know what you think of it!
After popping into town, I went to my parents' place to watch the Germany vs. Argentina match. Germany won by a convincing 4-0 scoreline, which suggests the England game wasn't an aberration. I'm just disappointed that we won't be seeing Maradona's antics on the touchline for the remainder of the World Cup. After the match, I took a photo of the scenery at the end of my parents' road in Ravenshead, Nottinghamshire.
I suppose it's not a bad view to have just a couple of minutes walk away... To me, the countryside is evocative of everything English. It's why I chose today's title, which is a lyric from the hymn 'Jerusalem'.
Apparently 90% of Britain's land is green. It's quite surprising really, and when you hear debates about this Island of ours supposedly bursting at the seams, it makes you realise that the problem is perhaps a lack of housing rather than land; but I suppose that's a debate for another day.

I have had that 17-85 4-5.6 for 3 years and taken about 100k photos with it. I LOVE it. It is such a nice walkabout that I abandoned my larger bag and just carry that one lens on my camera with a case when I go out and when travelling. I highly recommend it.
This is a wonderful shot!
