Weeping willow by vikdaddy

Weeping willow

I learnt how to play Poker today. Specifically, my brother taught us how to play Texas Hold 'Em, a variation on the game. I suppose I should know how to play poker at the age of 30, but better late than never. I was on quite a streak too, with three of four consecutive winning hands!

I came home quite late from playing poker at my parent's and it was getting dark, so I just took a few shots of the willow tree at night outside our house.

Not the most fascinating photo, but I'm trying to relax more about the fact that not every daily image can be excellent.

I've played a little with my new telephoto lens. I think this type of lens should be in my collection, but I'm not sure I'll use it that often. I'm glad I haven't spent a lot on it as I was considering purchasing a more expensive version, but I think I'd rather put what I've saved towards a short prime or ultra-wide angle lens. Because I have 30 days to return it I might even do that and get one of the other lenses sooner. Decisions, decisions!

Canon EOS 450D, f/2.8, 1/60, ISO-400
congrats on learning how to play texas hold 'em =) there was a time before when me and my friends got addicted to it and we'd play almost everyday til the wee hours of the morning...tsk tsk.

anyways, nice shot, as always =) i like the focus and depth.

The focus in this shot is great! I agree, not every day needs to be a well orchestrated shot, sometimes it's the fleeting moment shots that turn out the best! Congrats on learning how to play some poker, and doing rather well it sounds. Texas Hold 'em is still the only poker I know too.

I didn't learn how to play hold 'em until i was around 30 either! Glad you won (especially if there was $ involved- hehe). what type of telephoto lens did you get? I'm looking at getting one as soon as I pay my car off next month, any advice?

I like this pic. But I think everyone has a few blaaaa days now and then when taking pics. I am just trying to set up some of my pics and not just take what I happen to see.

I love the lighting behind the the weeping willow & how you can still see more of the tree in the background.

Hey- thanks for commenting back. You are right I do use a Sony a230, I was more asking about the different ranges not the specific lens brand. any thoughts? I am leaning toward a 70-300mm, but since I'm the only one I know with a dslr I don't have anyone around whose camera I can "fool" around with.

You are right...not every daily image isgoing to be PERFECT...well..at least in YOUR eyes. It certainly COULD be perfect in someone else's eyes...did you ever think about that? :) thats the great thinga bout photography...even the pictures of mine that I think are perfect...not everyone else does...it's just personal preference...I do like this photo...the lighting is beautiufl :)

yeah I almost never use my 70-300 either, and it was a wedding gift so no chance to return it. Also you are right, the project is less like a job and more of a hobby when you stop trying to make every day an amazing shot. Days off with a no brainer shot are also nice.

Yeah I use my 17-85mm 99,9% of the time. In my current travels I just take my small bag which fits my camera with the 17-85 and my 70-300 sits on a shelf in my apartment feeling all lonely.
