I finished my dinner and popped out briefly. First I checked the approximate sunset time and looked out of the window for interesting clouds, and thought it might be an opportune moment to use my ultra-wide angle lens again. I went to a little-known place a few minutes drive away and took a few snaps. Unfortunately the sunset was blocked by the clouds.
I struggled with the lack of lighting, because I either underexposed the grassy part and overexposed the sky, or vice-versa. I salvaged what I could in Lightroom and then added a vintage effect in Photoshop.
I really enjoy taking landscape shots. I've only started doing it recently, and my new lens helps, but I need practice. I think composition is more difficult when you capture wide shots. I also need to get better at getting exposure right, perhaps by taking the same picture at different exposures and combining them at the post-processing stage, which is something I've not done before.
By the way, I realised yesterday that I'm a quarter of the way through this project! It's flown by...

I too love the processing you've done on this! You'd never of guessed you had lighting issues! I too have a time trying to even things out, but never succeed as well as you have! I love this! Very VERY good photograph!
Despite the "issues" you mentioned, I think this is great! I love how ominous the sky looks, with the help of your chosen perspective ... vintage looks definitely works for this :)
Great picture! I love the line created by the fence, the sky and the processing. I also find it hard to take wide pictures.... I have a 17-70 lens and when I shoot landscapes, I often end up zooming a bit...
amazing shot Vik, that fence really leads my eyes into looking at that great sky! I have tried patching two exposures together a few times with PS3, and I found that without a tripod the cut out sky never matches with the pic of the correctly exposed foreground, err. But it has been a while since i tried, and perhaps you could make it happen. Best of luck.
love the perspective!
