Today I visited a shell of a building that is close to where I live. I went to the same place a couple of months ago and took some uninspired shots, and didn't end up posting any as my daily photo. I thought that I could get some decent shots today with fresh eyes, but I still didn't get anything I thought was particularly interesting. However, I saw a small stone arch at the site that I didn't notice last time, so I thought it would be a good focal point for a shot.
I got a few strange looks, as this is next to a thoroughfare to a housing estate. I hesitated a little at first, but eventually drowned out the onlooking public and snapped away. The colour version of this shot didn't grab me and I felt that the black and white version was a little better.
I recently watched an online video by a pro photographer. He was trained by Ansel Adams, and he said that he carried a white cardboard mount - the type you'd put in a photo frame as a border - to help him frame his shots. It helped him 'see' the photograph before he pressed the shutter button and, as he put it, know whether to take the shot "or walk away". I think it's an interesting idea and something I might experiment with in proper shoots I do in the future. Today, if I had the mount with me and didn't have to take at least one daily photo, I'd probably have walked away.
Semi-professional photographer based in Nottingham, England, I shoot mainly events and weddings. I'll be posting my work using my Fujis - X100S and X-Pro1.

Huh, that's interesting. I'll have to give that a go, though I'd probably drop the mount in the mud and end up with mud all over the camera lens.
Love this BW, great job.
