Recently I seem to have had a bad run of luck, health-wise. I felt a bit groggy for the first couple of days of this week, so I took my laptop home yesterday and worked from home today. At the weekend I got bitten on my leg and a few times on my arm by a gnat or something too, which has left swollen red marks and even made my leg a bit numb. Also, I've had a bit of a shoulder ache for the past few weeks, and when I went for a workout this evening I heard a rip at the first rep! Not good. My shoulder is aching a lot more now and it hurts when I raise it above a certain point, so I'll have to take a few days off from the gym.
Anyway, being partially disabled is not going to stop me taking my daily photo. I looked out of the window and saw the bright sunshine, so I thought I'd step in to my garden and see where it took me. I wanted to try a diptych (two-photo montage) of some sort as I haven't done this before, and was playing around with the manual settings of my camera to combat the strong light as I pointed it almost directly at the sun. I then turned it on me forgetting that I had left it on these settings and ended up, by luck, with this strong silhouette in my shot.
Sometimes in this project you have to go with the fluked shots as well as the ones that involve a painstaking set-up! As soon as I saw this I decided to give up on the diptych idea for today until I had a clear idea of what I want to achieve. In the original photo you could see my lips, but my hand put a shadow across part of it and it distracted from the remaining strong lines, so I removed it in post-processing.
Today's title was suggested by my cousin based in Dubai. I was talking to him via Skype again and I sent him the photo to seek his opinion. He agreed that the partial lip was distracting, so that helped, and I asked for suggestions for a title. He came up with this because I'm wearing my Ray Ban aviators, so as promised I've given credit where it's due!

Good job you left it on the wrong setting. This works really well.. Been checking out lens and think will have to leave it for a while... Just a bit to expensive.. Will keep my eye out though in case I spot a bargin just too good to refuse..
This is an awesome shot Vik. I don't know if I could do this if I was trying, a happy accident indeed. BTW a ripping sound when lifting is not good at all, hope you feel better soon or perhaps see a doc!
love the ray of light
