When I got home from work I could hear carnival-like noises. I wondered what it was, and after racking my brains I realised that the fair was in town. Not far from me is a park, and every year a small fair is held on the field.
After dinner I thought I'd pop out and have a look. First I walked around the fair and it wasn't busy, so I knew that if I took my camera out of my bag I would draw a lot of attention. I almost gave up, but then decided to set up my tripod from a distance and I took some shots.
I took quite a few shots of the fair from this distance, and I also took a few concentrating on the fairground ride on the right, using a long exposure to get some trippy lights. I was happier with the earlier shots as the sky was still lighter from this evening's remaining sunset, whereas in the later shots the sky was pitch black.
I've found a new excuse if people ask why I'm taking photos in public. This evening a couple of people asked whether I work for a newspaper. I think it was the tripod and the big lens! After my initial surprise the first time around, the second time I just said "yes" and that I work for the local rag. All of a sudden, people were really keen to have their photos taken! Try it for yourself - it really works!

I'm glad you didn't give up and walk away - this is wonderful. I love the lights. How come it wasn't busy though? It being a weekday, perhaps? And thanks for the tip, haha; did anyone ask when their picture would make the issue?
haha so you just tell people you work for "the local rag"? interesting :)
well I know what you mean about drawing attention...I'm not the type who likes people to stare or to wonder if I work for a paper..(well they probably wouldnt thnk that about me because I'm so short and dont look old enough...) but you get what I mean :)
I'm glad you got this shot, even from a distance at least!!
Good snap - I always let people think I'm from the local rag when taking pics at work's resident events - amazing how everyone suddenly wants to be in the local paper!!!
There was a fair me near over the summer, and for that exact reason I avoided them with my crappy point and shot as did'nt want people questioning me. Tripod and lies are the way forward :-)

Gotta lot of time for long exposure shots.
