I went to the Goose Fair this evening, as planned. I mentioned in yesterday's post that I was going to use my new flash for the first time, but instead I took my tripod because I wanted to take some long exposures. With it being a Friday night it was very busy, so it was difficult setting up shots. I only did a few using my tripod, and I was most pleased with my first few photos of the ferris wheel.
I shot this using my ultra-wide angle lens at its widest focal length of 10mm (16mm on my camera's crop sensor). I was actually only a few meters away, but with it being so wide it captured the whole wheel. I set the camera to a very low aperture and a fairly long shutter speed to achieve this effect. In post-processing I increased the clarity to try and bring out the detail and emphasise the movement of the ferris wheel. To see the rest of my shots from tonight, please visit my Flickr page ( http://www.flickr.com/photos/vikdaddy/).
I'm not usually interested in the rides, but I went on one tonight. It was great, and it gave me a taste for more! Because I had all my camera equipment with me I didn't go on more though, but I am tempted to go again perhaps on Sunday as it's the last day of the fair.
By the way, I've broken the 300 followers barrier - thanks for the support peeps!

This is really a great shot Vik - I did a similar shot when in Dubai last year but had to rest the camera on a pole so the angle wasn't perfect and result wise, nothing like this... good work....
Amazing pic! I love the colors and the movement. I think I prefer a tiny bit the "ferris wheel 2" pic, because you can see a little bit more details in the wheel. But both pics are really great!
Great shot! I have been to our fair recently and missed getting a shot like this, but it's a goal for me. Thanks for the scoop on how you set it up! Fav!
