It's Saturday night and I have nothing planned. I almost always have something to do, but tonight all I've done is taxi duty for Suman and her friends. I thought I might as well bring my camera if I'm going in to the city centre, and I decided to take a few photos of Nottingham's train station as it's only a couple of minutes away from where I dropped them off.
When I got there I set up my tripod and took a couple of test shots, when a security man approached me and asked if I had permission to take photos. I said I didn't realise I had to and was given some instructions about speaking to the station manager. Instead of asking I decided to pack up my equipment as it was getting late, and I did think about going elsewhere to take a few more night shots but it started to rain. I'm a little annoyed because with more time I could have done better, but here's the first of my two test shots anyway.
You can see the severe barrel distortion - particularly on the left-hand side of this photo - as my camera was pointing upwards to capture as much of the ceiling detail as possible. This 'pin-cushioning' effect is what happens when you use an ultra-wide angle lens and don't point it straight ahead! In post-processing I increased the clarity and converted it to black and white.
I should be getting my first photo published! There's a local magazine that's freely distributed throughout the city called 'Left Lion'. Their photo editor contacted me on Flickr and asked for permission to use 'The Golden Bicycle', my photo from day 167, and of course I agreed. Why he chose that photo I'm not too sure, because I've done much better work; perhaps he's interested in unusual things in Nottingham or something. How exciting though!

I kinda like the curving at the edges of the frame - it gives it that wide-angle feel. I think this is a fantastic shot, especially given how little time you had!
I remember the golden bicycle photo - congrats! :)

I also wish you'd had more time to get your shot - this "test shot" is great!
Nice shot mind, for test shot, came out well, plenty of detail in the roof
