I don't often shoot HDR photography because I think it's usually overdone, but this is one of my rare attempts. I'm not an expert on taking or editing them, and it shows in this photo; the sky could have been captured/processed better.

I think you did a fine job because it is definitely NOT overdone! If you hadn't said that you attempted HDR I would have assumed you used a split ND filter. There's nice detail in both the sky and the foreground.
Like the shot and like the added dimension that the HDR gives to the colours and sky. I agree with you that HDR is best used sparingly - it's a very personal thing though and I can see the fun in producing something outrageous every now and again.
