It was a beautiful day for a walk in Johnson's Pasture. I fixed a geocache that was long overdue for some repairs. Encountered a rattlesnake. Saw a couple of kestrels, what looked like mama and juvenile and also spotted a red tail hawk.
I think this is about my fourth take on this however. I kept processing other images, but wasn't satisfied with any of them for various reasons. I like this one though. Thanks for all your comments on my last couple of shots. I really appreciate your comments and faves. They keep me going each day.
@sarasdadandmom Terry, the snake wasn't the problem. It's in the 80s here today, so I was expecting them to be out, but didn't spy a one on the hike until I started back down. Hear something rustling in the bushes, thought perhaps it was a bird I'd seen there on my way up so stepped over to investigate and hear the tell tale (pun intended) sound of the rattle and quickly backed off. I never did see it, but it rattled for a long time.
Great shot and love that dof! I would have been a little intimidated by that rattler though! We have quite a few around here too and one in our backyard last summer! Glad to know they aren't territorial, so he moved on!
This is really beautiful, Paul! I love the simplicity of it and it's especially nice in b&w. Shots like this make me realize I must get over my addiction to color.
Beautiful pic, Paul! Your black and white pics are always wonderful! Just thinking about your rattlesnake encounter gives me a sick feeling. The non-venomous ones scare me! I know you're careful, but please be extra careful when there's a possibility of snakes around!!!!!
@cmuir1963 Cindy,
Believe me, I've been face to face with a six footer not more than five feet away once. I jumped back rather quickly not wanting to get within striking distance. I try to avoid them as much as possible, but sometimes, they just happen.
