Ready, Steady, Go!

Newham Town Hall at East Ham caught just as the lights are about to turn green after a pedestrian crossing phase.

The town hall is a very impressive building (built in 1917 according to a date stone in one of the walls) and reminds me of the public baths in Camden - perhaps they are by the same architect.

Taken on iphone4 and processed in PSExpress, Iris, and PictureShow

What a beautiful building! I like how the processing makes it look bent around the edges.

Yr processing brings out the grandeur of the building. Great job on this!!!! Glad u love iris. Go check out the newly launched "photoforge 2" which is touted as a very powerful app.

Love the processing - lends a timeless feel. And the grey moody sky allows the bright brick of the building to stand out. Great composition!

@kchuk It is a very lovely building - the pale sandstone has beautiful carved details. I think I will research it to see if it is by the same person as the Camden Baths which is a gorgeous building not as big as this one, but built to the same exacting quality.

@pepitaliang Thanks Pepita I had an app buying fest yesterday and also got photoforge they are a bit naughty because you have to buy add ons to get some groovy effects but I could not resist and they are not that much each. I am working on a push bike with attitude at the moment but have not cracked it yet!

@moynes18 Thanks Amber I managed to grab it before the road filled up with traffic I did take some after this but they did not work well I think the diagonal lines of the junction box help draw the eye in and once it is not visible it does not have that pull. I am pleased that you say it has a timeless feel I was hoping that came across,

Hi Lara it was pretty involved I am not sure I will remember it all! I took it on normal setting in iPhone no zoom (no HDR version) it was very dark so I took it into PSExpress and lightened the exposure, put a tad mor contrast in the sharpened it slightly c setting of 5. I either used this or may have started again in Iris and did more exposure tweaking and lightening shadows until I liked the look o was tryning to get those yellow junction lines to pop but it did not play ball for me still i liked it ok I applied some fx filters (can't remember which ones now in the colour section I think, and added a vignete i must have boosted thecsaturation somewhere along the way too probably in PSE. I moved it into picture show added a worn frame and did pseudo HDR in it plus a bit of tilt shift on rectangle setting and aimed to keep
the tower sharp and blur out the cars at either side I think that was about it!! Fairly convoluted for me but I got carried away in iris it was so much fun and the novelty of it swept me along :-) sorry I can't be more exact but hope it gives enough to try and get similar look

Ta Trude it was a bit of a processing marathon (see above) but loads of fun to do and I was pleased with the result a real improvement on a rather dark original :-)

@phil_howcroft Ta Phil, I did wonder about a sepia treatment I am not very brave with b&w but am posting a selective colouring effort today, It would be interesting to know what you think of it

no problem... I could follow it... thanks for sharing... I love this pic...

Somehow I've become unfollowing of you! fixed now. This is great processing. I agree with phil that sepia would look great too.

@carrapeta00 Yeah give it a try - I have found that it makes me think about how I might get that picture that one shot cannot grab and I rarely ever process them I just use SOOC shots and the result is often just fine needing no further processing at all - maybe a crop if it will work.

@tashy oh dear I struggle to keep up with everyone's posts, I try my best to visit other people's pages and comment, but it is bit a hit and miss with me! Yes I think I should try and do some b&w and sepia shots and see how I do....
