Ok, not really. They were actually fighting over a fish, but this is still activity I've never seen. And who knows, maybe this is how they get there. There are five in the immediate area which is also unusual but I could only get three in the photo. I'm going to need a longer lens if this keeps up. This beautiful area is Gulf State Park, Florida Point, Orange Beach, Alabama.
Btw, if you care to look, I've filled in photos from the past week in the following dates: 3/1, 3/5, 3/8, 3/10, 3/22 and 4/5. It's been a good week ;)
hahahah mating dance. I'm glad they're just fighting over a fish. Great capture! I've only seen a real heron a couple times in my life. You are lucky to live by the water :)
Elizabeth, welcome aboard. I'm glad you made the stretch. Of course, as our very own Vicar of Dibley, I can see you are familiar with stretching the boundaries. Louise, I really appreciate your consistent encouragement. That was pretty unusual but the herons are common and they are often fairly habituated to people here. Rock star Lauren, you are right. I am lucky to live where I do. When I had a chance to choose where I wanted to live, this was it and I love it's beauty and weather (except for the occasional hurricane). You have an amazing gift at connecting with people here and people treat you like they know you personally. That's awesome. I think some of the younger guys might have a crush one you--haha. Emily, thanks for looking at my photos. I really appreciate it. I think you are the first person who's mentioned they've actually been to Gulf Shores. It is a fantastic place. Your mom must be awesome. The way you made your comment about Bonhoeffer being one of the greatest theologians ever--don't think I've ever heard that from someone not studying theology in a pretty formal way. Very cool.
To answer your question, my mom is the one who taught me all about Bonhoeffer.
