I'm posting this even if I'm quite disappointed with the result! Second session where I try to get something decent: it turns out this is more difficult than I thought.
Surprisingly, for me, 1/320s isn't enough to get a still subject. I think this sort of "cliche'" images are pretty useful though to work on details and improve.
The picture was taken in my parents' kitchen with natural light coming in from the window from behind the camera. I placed a coloured sheet in the background. I put a pot full of water over the spoon on a chair.
My idea about the blur is that once the strawberry hits the spoon, it vibrates (too) quicky
Thank you very much for taking the time to comment both the images I've posted yesterday!
Interesting commentary with this. I've never tried anything like this but I think it is lots harder than it looks. What background did you use and what lighting?
Good effort... these are the sort of shots I too want to try but never seem to get around to doing so... similar to water droplet ones (of which I have in fact tried and failed and keep meanng to try again...)
This looks like it would be hard to do, so I applaud you for trying. The white milk, red strawberry and blue background are a great color combo, so if you're going to try it again, stick with that for sure!
Oh no don't be disappointed the colours and movement are great, I think there are more things right with this than wrong. If you think about it the focus is the only thing you'd want to change otherwise the colours composition, motion, subjects, lighting etc are all perfect!
I like it! I am STILL learning my camera! I spent hours trying to get my waterfall shots. But now that I know what to do it is going to be a lot easier :)
I think it was Jani who told me that you have to have a flash, not just good light, in order to freeze the action for these kinds of shots. Good attempt as the milk and spoon are great. It's just the strawberry that's motion blurred. Pretty colors. And you really do learn a lot when you do these kinds of shots.
This is brilliant Davide! Reminds me of a breakfast cereal advert but prettier!! I'm not sure what you were imagining but I'd be jumping for joy with this :)
I've tried this and know how difficult it is. None of my shots made the cut which should give you an idea of how bad they were ;o) I like the colours in this and I think you achieved the splash really well but I think it needs better focus on the strawberry. Keep trying and I'm sure you'll get there in the end xx
this is great Davide - I suspect you are not far away from what you were trying to achieve - like Amy says - you probably need a flash to capture the "freeze". The colour combinaton in this is awesome - I love that red, white and blue combo...love all the milk droplets too - looking a little like a star timewarp
No pain, no gain. Keep on trying! :-) P.S. Did you try this in continuous shooting and AF AI SERVO (not sure of the term in Nikkon)?
I did a similar thing sometime back using water and a slice of lemon. Did a load of tries and only very few were OK. I messed up the whole bathroom. :-) http://365project.org/bugik/365/2010-11-09
