An Apple a Day .

(Edited) ..... The apple variety named Bramley's Seedling was an accidental variety arising from an apple core of unknown origin dropped in a garden in Southwell, Notts, in the mid-19th century and was found to have good keeping qualities and an excellent flavour when baked (with plenty of sugar!).

It was cloned in 1903 by a local nurseryman who named it after the current owner of the garden in which it was found, and became a favourite wherever it was planted.

I first tasted it after visiting the garden to photograph the original tree in the 1960s to illustrate an article in the local paper, the Newark Advertiser, and have enjoyed it many times since, I was talking about it recently with neighbours where I now live, one of whom located some in a local market and bought a couple, one of which another kind friend cooked for me as a special treat.

Dunno about keeping the doctor away but it certainly made my day!
Great image Arthur...I avoid doctors - I worry when I do rock up to one the list will be long 😊
