Ken Nobbs planted rose bushes, some 2000 plants in total, about 30 years ago as a colourful tribute to the community of Te Kauwhata.
For the past 19 years Gilbert Powerly has been the unofficial custodian of the roses, constantly pruning. At 87 he probably needs an apprentice, so we can keep enjoying them for another 30 years
